Two Brothers, One Detroit Dream in Austin

Via 313 started as a humble trailer on the streets of Austin, TX, in 2012. Brothers Brandon and Zane Hunt grew up in Detroit, Michigan — the 313 area code — and they carried that city's deep pizza tradition all the way to Texas.

Frustrated that nobody in Austin was making authentic Detroit-style pizza, they set out to change that. What began as a small food trailer quickly earned a passionate following. People lined up for thick, crispy-edged, cheese-to-the-crust squares that tasted exactly like home.

Today, via 313 has grown into one of Austin's most celebrated pizza destinations, staying true to the original Detroit recipe while serving a city that loves bold, honest food. Every pie is still crafted by hand — the same way it's always been.

From a single trailer to an Austin institution — here's how via 313 pizza grew into what it is today.

2012

The Trailer Launches

Brothers Brandon and Zane Hunt open the first Via 313 food trailer on South Lamar Blvd, Austin. Lines form immediately. Word spreads fast across the city about the authentic Detroit-style square pizza nobody else was making.

2013

First Award Recognition

Austin Chronicle names Via 313 one of the city's Best New Food Businesses. Local press and food bloggers begin writing about the unique Detroit-style approach — sparking citywide buzz around via313.

2015

Second Location Opens

Demand outgrows the single trailer. Via 313 opens a second trailer location in North Austin. The team grows, the menu expands, and the signature square pies continue drawing devoted fans from all over Central Texas.

2017

First Brick-and-Mortar

The Hunts open Via 313's first permanent restaurant space on East 6th Street — the heart of Austin's dining scene. The new kitchen allows the team to refine the via 313 pizza recipe while scaling to meet growing demand.

2019

National Media Spotlight

Via 313 is featured in national food publications including Eater and Food & Wine as one of America's best regional pizza styles. The via 313 pizza name becomes synonymous with Detroit-style excellence outside of Michigan.

2024

Continued Growth & Innovation

Via 313 continues to innovate with seasonal specials and community collaborations, maintaining the craft and quality that built the brand. New menu items launch while the original Detroit-style recipes remain unchanged and unchanged is the standard.
